Most crochet hooks are very light weight. I know there are some ergonomic designed ones on the market now. I have mainly aluminium hooks because that is what Mom gifted me with when she taught me to crochet. My niece used the plastic hooks that come in fun colors.
Are you going to try to teach yourself to crochet or will you be taking a class at a shop? Some instructors are particular about what supplies you use. If you take a lesson, you might want to check and see that the teacher prefers.
I'm going to teach myself, but I do have some friends that crochet, also. I figured I taught myself to knit, so I would probably be capable of doing the same with crochet.

I think Clover makes one of the ergonomic style hooks.
I saw those. I might go to one of the knit shops to see if they have them so I can feel them first. It seems like most of the major brands are coming out with ergonomic hooks.
